For over a thousand years, Jewish scholars have used the PaRDeS framework to unlock the multidimensional wisdom embedded in sacred texts. Like an orchard (the literal meaning of PaRDeS), this method allows us to harvest meaning at different depths—from the accessible fruit on lower branches to the choice produce higher up.
P'shat
The surface meaning—the straightforward interpretation of the text as written. This foundational layer establishes context and anchors understanding.
Remez
The symbolic layer where words hint at deeper meanings. Numbers, patterns, and allusions connect texts across the tradition.
D'rash
Homiletical interpretation that draws out ethical, moral, and practical lessons through comparative and allegorical analysis.
Sod
The mystical dimension—hidden wisdom accessible through kabalistic and esoteric traditions, revealing the Divine blueprint.
